Post-Game Quotes
Milwaukee 63, Loyola 61
February 25, 2010
Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"I thought at the beginning of the game, our guys were really sharp - they did a great job, had great energy, got a good lead - but we couldn't extend that lead. Milwaukee went into a zone and we didn't get as many good looks as we did early with them in man-to-man. A little of it was that we missed some good shots, but we also we didn't get a second or third shot. Not getting to the free throw line in either half really hurt us - just getting an opportunity to get into the bonus and those types of things hurt us and we ended up shooting too many perimeter jump shots. I thought the beginning of the second half really set the tone. They got themselves back in it. The tough thing for us was that two of our last four possessions were turnovers. You have to get a shot off. We made 16 turnovers against a team that played zone, so we have to take care of the basketball better than we did tonight. Give Milwaukee credit, Ricky Franklin is a great player, he's a first-team All-League in my book. He kind of willed them back into the game and made some plays for them."
On the team's play in the second half
"We challenged our guys at halftime. That's what I was really disappointed about, especially with the turnovers. We should have gotten a better shot off at the end there, but obviously people are going to switch over and they're not going to let you get the three. That's what they're trying to do. In the beginning of the second half for whatever reason, our team, over the last three games, has not played well and I'm not sure why. We certainly challenged our guys at halftime about that. All that momentum and all that hard work from the first half was let go in the first four minutes of the second half."
Loyola Junior Guard Terrance Hill
On the team's play in the beginning of the second half
"Like coach said, in the first four minutes, I think our momentum and our lead evaporated. It was demoralizing."
