Loyola vs. Albany
December 22, 2009
Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
On his team's performance
"This was a really tough game for us. Give Albany a lot of credit. We're really happy we got that good start. We watched them on tape - we watched them play against Penn - and their two wing players are kids who can really score. They scouted us very well. I thought that they took some things away from us, they trapped Courtney (Stanley) a lot and just disrupted us a lot. Give them a lot of credit. They made us do everything we possibly could, so I'm really happy with the win."
On opening the season 9-2
"I'm really happy about it and I'm really happy with these guys. They've been really fun to coach. I know there are a lot of tough games ahead of us, but this is a great start for our guys. I think that our fans can really appreciate the way that this team is playing. They're kind of a lovable group. I don't know where it's always going to go, but I think a little bit of it is that they really want to help each other and they really understand the concept of team. As a coach, that's one of the fun things about it. We really enjoy working with the guys It's a good start. We told the guys to go home, relax and enjoy it. It's a well-deserved break for this group.
Junior Guard Geoff McCammon
On the upcoming Horizon League schedule
"Our conference is tough. I think coming in as a freshman, I really didn't know how tough it was. It's really tough. It's going to be a struggle, but I feel like we're where we want to be going into conference play."
Freshman Forward Ben Averkamp
On the team's chemistry
"I think that it was pretty early on that we started gelling and started to understand what everyone likes to do and where everyone can be most effective on the court. I think you see that out there too, that we understand where guys should get the ball and where they're at their best and what they're best at doing."
Junior Guard Terrance Hill
On his progress at this point of the season
"I really wouldn't ask anything of my teammates that I wouldn't ask of myself. If the ball's on the floor, I can't tell Geoff to dive on the floor if I'm not going to dive before anybody. I don't feel like they really look for me, it's just that I feel like I'm comfortable taking any shot because I've been through a lot of different situations."
