Sydney Cheatham-Carlone joined the Loyola Chicago women's volleyball staff as an assistant coach in March 2024.
For the second straight season, she helped the Ramblers to an NCAA Tournament appearance. Loyola won the 2025 A-10 championship over VCU to punch it's ticket. The Ramblers finished the 2025 campaign with a 17-16 overall record and 12-6 finish in conference play.
She helped coach Ann Marie Remmes, Avary DeBlieck, Kaitlyn Burke, and Karli Molnau to postseason honors. Remmes was tabbed to the A-10 First Team, while DeBlieck and Burke earned second team honors. Molnau was maned All-Rookie. DeBlieck was a three-time Defensive Player of the Week honoree and broke the single-season block record. Molnau was named Rookie of the Week once this season.
Cheatham-Carlone helped the Ramblers make history in 2024. Loyola finished the year with a 22-12 overall record and 13-5 conference record. After earning the No. 3 seed, the Ramblers upset No. 18 Dayton (3-0) for their second league title. It was the first sweep the Flyers faced since September 2022. Loyola's momentum carried into the NCAA Tournament where the Ramblers upset No. 24 BYU (3-0) in the opening round for the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win. The historic run ultimately ended in the second round against No. 9 Purdue.
She had a part in coaching Bree Borum to A-10 Setter of the Year accolades. Borum surpassed 3,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs during the George Washington series. Marta Cvitkovic and Ann Marie Remmes also took home A-10 honors with second team nods.
Cheatham-Carlone spent the last two seasons as head volleyball coach at North Central. While at North Central, she helped guide the Cardinals to a 32-21 overall record.
In 2023, Cheatham-Carlone led the team to 18 total wins, the most since 2015. The Cardinals also beat their first ever ranked opponent in the season-opening weekend, earning AVCA Top-25 votes. The historic season saw three All-Conference student-athletes and seven conference Player of the Week awards.
The Cardinals also saw success in the classroom with 13 student-athletes landing on the conference's All-Academic Team with two earning further recognition by College Sports Communications Academic All-District honors.
Prior to taking over head coaching duties, Cheatham-Carlone served as a graduate assistant coach for the women's volleyball program for the 2018-19 season, before being elevated to an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at North Central.
While at North Central, Cheatham-Carlone was recognized as a 30 Under 30 Award winner and an Assistant Coach of the Year.
Cheatham-Carlone competed at Western Michigan for four seasons where she helped WMU to a 2014 MAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance and earned Academic All-Conference honors twice. She earned the team influencer award in each of her last two seasons. She was also received the Gal Werme Community Service award, WMU Champion, and Coach's awards.
A native of Naperville, Illinois, Cheatham-Carlone graduated from Western Michigan with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She then received her master's from North Central in leadership studies.
