Kervin Kenton

Loyola University Chicago men’s soccer has added Kervin Kenton to its staff as a volunteer assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season, Head Coach Steve Bode announced.

Kenton brings high-level playing experience from three continents. He developed in the youth academies of Deportivo Saprissa and Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, two of the most successful clubs in Central America, and captained multiple age-group sides.

His career then took him to Germany, where he competed in both the Regionalliga and U19 Bundesliga with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. On the international stage, Kenton represented Costa Rica’s U20 national team, facing top competition from around the world. In the United States, he played for Detroit City FC and other professional and semi-professional teams.

"I'm very excited to welcome Kervin Kenton to our coaching staff here at Loyola,” said Bode. “Kervin’s strong playing background has given him immediate credibility with our student-athletes, and he has already built great relationships with both the coaching staff and players during his short time on campus. He has a strong appetite to learn and grow as a coach, and we’re excited to support him in his coaching journey. Kervin will be a tremendous resource for our program, especially for our student-athletes."

After retiring as a player, Kenton transitioned into coaching. He spent multiple seasons as an assistant coach at Roosevelt University. He has also coached in academy and high school programs in the Chicago area, emphasizing player development and tactical growth.

Kenton played collegiate soccer for Coastal Carolina and graduated in 2019. He was a 2017 First Team All-Sun Belt selection, the 2018 Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, a 2018 Preseason All-Sun Belt honoree, and team captain.

Kenton, a native of San José, Costa Rica, holds a D coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation.

“After my career as a player, I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to transition to coaching at LUC,” Kenton said. “I want to thank the staff and team for their warm welcome. I'm excited to help the team make history, grow, and learn from everyone. I'm confident that we have what it takes to become one of the best soccer teams in the country.”
