CHICAGO -- Loyola Chicago took both games in the doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, March 28. The Ramblers picked up the first win in walk-off fashion then never trailed on the way to victory in game two.
The Ramblers are now 14-17 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Game One: Loyola Chicago 5, St. Bonaventure 4, Loyola Chicago
Loyola opened scoring in the third inning as the offense clicked and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of rookie infielder Anna Kiel. The Bonnies rallied to tie the ballgame at 4-4 before sophomore outfielder Averi Vander Woude walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to score junior infielder Nat Lesnicki.
Kiel (5-4) got the win for Loyola, going 6.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters. Redshirt sophomore infielder Liz Sedakis led the Ramblers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and senior outfielder Sierra Sass went 2-for-4.
Game Two: Loyola Chicago 4, St. Bonaventure 1
The Ramblers took a 1-0 lead early in the game and never surrendered its advantage en route to the 4-1 win. Freshman Megan Piotrowski got the scoring started with an RBI single to score Sass from second base. Loyola tacked on more runs in the fourth inning as rookie Mackenzie Patterson and sophomore Addyson Borg each had run-scoring doubles, bringing the score to 3-0.
The Ramblers' defense held the Bonnies scoreless before adding one more insurance run thanks to RBI single from Piotrowski. St. Bonaventure put one run up, but Loyola held on for the win. Freshman pitcher Katie Geydoshek (4-5) started in the circle and secured the win, pitching seven innings and giving up just one run on four hits while allowing no walks and striking out five.
