Loyola Chicago Travels to THE Spring Games

LEADING OFF 
Loyola Chicago travels south to Leesburg, Fla. for THE Spring Games where the team will square up against Southern Miss, South Alabama State and Long Island on Friday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 15.  

WEEKEND SCHEDULE (All times listed in CT) 

  • Friday, Feb. 13 vs. Southern Miss - 2 p.m. | vs. Alabama State - 4:30 p.m.   
  • Saturday, Feb. 14 vs. Bethune-Cookman - 12 p.m. | vs. Long Island - 2:30 p.m.    
  • Sunday, Feb. 15 vs. Alabama State - 9 a.m.    

QUICK HITS 

  • Sophomore infielder Addyson Borg recorded her first career homerun against Miami Ohio (Feb. 8) and had a career-high three RBIs.  
  • Senior Abbie Gregus and sophomore Alli Pawlowicz lead the Ramblers at the plate with four hits apiece and batting averages of .308 and .286, respectively.  
  • Inside the circle, rookie Katie Geydoshek has a 2.27 ERA through 12.1 innings pitched and a team-high six strikeouts after the season-opening weekend.  
  • Loyola returned 13 letterwinners and welcomed eight newcomers, including six true freshmen and two transfer students.   
  • Head coach Alicia Abbott enters her seventh season at the helm of the program, sporting a 117-149 career record. She secured her 100th career win early last year against St. John's (Feb. 14, 2025).   

SCOUTING REPORT 
Southern Miss is off to a 4-2 start this season after going 4-1 in its home-opening tournament last weekend. The Golden Eagles put up 32 total runs in their wins against Southeast Missouri State, UAB and Lipscomb. Sophomore pitcher Kayla Giardina is 2-1 out of the bullpen with a 1.17 ERA and seven strikeouts.  

South Alabama State are 2-4 on the year, securing their first win in a close 6-5 matchup against Lindenwood then taking down Southern Indiana, 10-2. Sophomore infielder Talee Sims leads the Hornets with 11 hits and a .550 batting average. 

Bethune-Cookman (0-6) is also seeking its first win of the season. In a highly competitive opening-weekend tournament at South Florida, the Wildcats were shut out in four of the five games. Senior outfielder Emma Bradley-Tse leads the Wildcats with five hits on a .333 batting average.  

Long Island is another tournament team searching for its first victory after going 0-5 at the FGCU Classic last weekend. Rookie utility Anais Soto is the team leader in batting average (.375) and on-base percentage (.545).
