Second-Half Finish Earns Loyola Chicago Road Victory

Pistorius nets game-winner from Hevey, Deardorff secures another shutout.

NORMAL, Ill. -- Loyola Chicago earned a hard-fought road victory, defeating Illinois State, 1-0, behind a second-half strike from senior forward Molly Pistorius and another shutout by redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Allison Deardorff on Sunday, Sept. 7.

The Ramblers improved to 4-1-1 after the win.

Coach Quotes: Jon Sandoval
"We were not our best today, but we found a way to get a result on the road. Credit to ISU, I thought they made things very difficult for us. We are happy that Molly was able to get her first goal, after two incorrect offside calls. We have to regroup on Tuesday and start the week off with a sharp training session."

How It Happened
  • It was a scoreless opening 45 minutes where both teams traded chances; Loyola outshot Illinois State 5 (4) - 3 (1) in the first half.
  • After three attempts in the second half, the Ramblers finally broke through in the 72nd minute when Pistorius finished on a setup from junior forward Zoe Hevey, recording her first goal of the season and giving Loyola the edge which eventually proved to be the game-winner.
  • Loyola's defense was equally vital throughout, holding Illinois State to just one shot in the second half, stopped by Deardorff.
Inside the Box Score
  • Deardorff's shutout is her fifth straight clean sheet.
  • Alongside Deardorff, senior Emily Roberts and freshman Abby Sudkmap played the full-90.
  • Hevey, Roberts, Olivia Anderson and Catherine Cline each had at least one shot.
  • Loyola has now won the last seven matches in the all-time series against its old conference foe.
