CHICAGO – The Ramblers came away from Sunday's match with bragging rights over the DePaul Blue Demons in the Red Line Rivalry match.
Taylor Harrison scored the game-winner in the 86
th minute helping Loyola Chicago to a 1-0 shutout.
With the win, the Ramblers close the non-conference schedule with a 4-4 record.
"We put a complete performance together," said head coach
Barry Bimbi. "We had a ton of shots, dangerous opportunities, and rarely gave DePaul a look on goal. I thought the mentality was positive all the way through. Today we had the belief and quality. It's nice to get out of here today with the result."
How It Happened
Loyola's offensive dominance started immediately out of the kickoff Sunday afternoon.
Jaimee Cibulka and
Zoe Hevey tallied three straight shots by the sixth minute for the Ramblers. At the 14:27 mark,
Meghan Economos would get the closest look forcing the first save in goal for DePaul.
Naya Lipkens got her hands on the Blue Demons' first attempt on target inside the 21
st minute and again five minutes later. She made the save on both to keep a clean sheet through the remainder of the first.
Another 13 shots came off the feet of Ramblers in the second half, while the Blue Demons were held to just one. By the fourth minute of the second,
Olivia Rhodes and Hevey put DePaul's keeper to work for another pair of saves. Hevey kept the pressure on with two more strikes on goal in the 56
th and 58
th minute, but she couldn't quite find the back of the net for the Ramblers.
Loyola didn't let up and finally found success in the 86
th minute. Hevey took the ball into the top left of the box and fed Harrison in the middle. Harrison downed the ball and turned using one touch with her left foot to place it in the bottom right corner. The Ramblers took a 1-0 lead with just under five minutes left to play.
Bella Hanisch came down the pitch two minutes later in a last-ditch effort for DePaul. Lipkens tallied her final save of the match, and Loyola wins, 1-0.
