Bimbi Picks Up 100th Win As Ramblers Blank SIUE, 2-0

Harrison, Nemec find back of the net to close out unbeaten week for Loyola

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (August 28, 2022)

In Short…
Taylor Harrison and Megan Nemec each netted goals as the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the road, defeating SIUE (1-3) by a final score of 2-0 this afternoon.  Today's result from Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill., which moves the Ramblers to 2-1-1 on the season, marks the 100th career win for Loyola Head Coach Barry Bimbi.

Head Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"Sunday games are always tough, especially on the road against a quality team like SIUE, so I'm extremely pleased to come out of it with a victory and a shutout.  Hopefully the results from this week will give us confidence going into a tough week against Xavier and Western Illinois."

How It Happened
Abby Swanson nearly gave Loyola a dream start four minutes in on a sweltering late summer afternoon in the southwestern corner of Illinois.  Following a Cougar foul just off the edge of the 18-yard box, Oliva Knab lofted a free kick towards the back post that found Swanson, only to see her headed try smothered by SIUE goalkeeper Taylor Spiller.  Naya Lipkens responded in kind five minutes later, collecting Taylor Dolt's left-footed try.

The Ramblers broke the deadlock in the 17th minute.  After chasing down a feed from Madeleine Barone, Nemec sent a ball across the face of goal that connected flush with an onrushing Harrison, who directed past Spiller to put Loyola on top, 1-0.  Nemec nearly doubled the lead 10 minutes later, forcing the Cougar netminder into an impressive stop in a one-on-one situation that kept the hosts within one at the break.

SIUE came out on the front foot in the second half, with Lily Schnieders and Macie Begley both narrowly misfiring five minutes after the restart.  Loyola began to reassert itself as time wore on.  Swanson threatened the Cougar net in the 54th minute, driving a one-timer wide of the far post.

Nemec removed any drama just before the hour mark, opening her 2022 account as she corralled a pass from Harrison before depositing her shot from 12 yards out by Spiller to make it 2-0.  Lipkens preserved the shutout in the 87th minute, diving at her near post to stop Lily Schnieders' free kick and close out the Maroon & Gold's second victory over SIUE in as many seasons.

Looking At The Numbers
- Already the winningest head coach in program history, Bimbi's overall record during his 11-plus year stay in Rogers Park now sits at 100-83-27 (.540).
- A year removed from a stellar freshman campaign, Harrison tallied her first career game-winning goal during the first half before assisting on Nemec's second-half tally.
- Nemec put home her 18th career goal in the 59th minute, a mark that ranks sixth all-time in Rambler annals.  Both she and Barone picked up assists on Harrison's opener.
- Olivia Knab was also credited with a helper on Nemec's strike.
- Lipkens added two saves in goal as Loyola posted its second clean sheet of the season, outshooting SIUE by a 13-7 margin.
