Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Sends Saint Joseph’s Past Loyola, 1-0

Ramblers wrap up road swing on Thursday against VCU

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 8, 2022)

In Short…
Ashley Orendac's goal in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference as Saint Joseph's (3-5-6, 2-0-4 A-10) continued its unbeaten start to Atlantic 10 Conference play, picking up a 1-0 victory over the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (6-6-2, 2-4 A-10) this afternoon at Sweeney Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

Head Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"We're very disappointed in the fact that we came out in the first 45 minutes and applied what we have been working on this week in training, but couldn't find the breakthrough goal.  We're learning lessons every game in the A-10 and will continue to work hard to get positive results."

How It Happened
Both teams traded attempts in the fourth minute, with Izzy Green heading wide of goal before Megan Nemec forced a stop out of Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti 41 seconds later.  Amanda Cassidy had a great chance to provide the day's opening goal just ahead of the quarter-hour mark, directing her headed effort towards the far post, only for Cappelletti to make a diving save.

Saint Joseph's put together a pair of dangerous opportunities as the half wore on.  In the 32nd minute, Chloe Khelil took aim from just outside the box following a corner kick, but skied her attempt.  Just four minutes later, Jiselle Daniels saw the first half's best chance fall to her right foot, sending a one-timer narrowly over the bar as the two Jesuit rivals headed to halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Coming off a season-best eight-save performance against Dayton last Sunday, Loyola netminder Naya Lipkens stepped up only 12 minutes into the second half, diving to make a fingertip save on Natalie Nevins' blast.  The Hawks had another opportunity to jump in front in the 64th minute when Orendac directed her left-footed volley from the edge of the six-yard box high.

Lipkens continued to keep the Maroon & Gold in the game in the 72nd minute, turning in a point-blank stop on Khelil's header off a free kick.  Orendac provided the day's deciding strike 10 minutes later, driving a right-footed shot in at the far post to ultimately secure all three points for the Hawks.

Looking At The Numbers
- Nemec paced Loyola's attack on the afternoon with four shots, two of which came on target.
- Saint Joseph's finished the day with a 12-9 edge in shots.  The Hawks outshot the Ramblers by a 7-2 margin during the second half.
- Lipkens was credited with both of her saves in the closing 45 minutes.
