Loyola Heads East For Saturday Matinee At Saint Joseph’s

Ramblers look to snap brief two-game slide

CHICAGO (October 6, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (6-5-2, 2-3 A-10) opens a stretch that sees it play three of its final five games away from home on Saturday when it visits Saint Joseph's for an Atlantic 10 Conference tilt.  Kickoff from Sweeney Field is scheduled for 12 p.m. (CT).

The Ramblers have been a tough out away from Loyola Soccer Park this season, going 4-1-2 (.643) in games played outside Rogers Park.

Last Time Out: Loyola dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions at home last week, falling to Davidson and Dayton, respectively.  Naya Lipkens impressed in goal against the Flyers, racking up a season-high eight saves.

vs. Saint Joseph's: Saint Joseph's enters Saturday's clash with Loyola on an impressive six-game unbeaten run that has seen the Hawks move their record to 2-5-6 overall and 1-0-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference action.

Following draws in each of their first four league encounters, Saint Joseph's picked up its first A-10 victory in resounding fashion back on October 29, downing Fordham by a 3-1 final at Sweeney Field.  Natalie Nevins, Jiselle Daniels, and Mairin Boyle each tallies goals for the Hawks, all of which came inside the opening 35 minutes of play.

Nevins and Daniels have served as the focal point of the attack for head coach Jess Mannella, who is now in her 23rd year at the helm in the City of Brotherly Love.  Nevins has bagged a team-high four goals, including two tallies across the Hawks' last three games.  Daniels has been just as impressive in the final third, dishing out four assists, a mark which leads the Saint Joseph's roster, in addition to netting three goals.

Katie Cappelletti has played in every minute of game action for Mannella's side in goal, putting up a 1.62 goals against average and a 0.700 save percentage.  She has four shutouts to her name this season.

Series Stuff: Jesuit rivals Loyola and Saint Joseph's will clash for just the second time on Saturday afternoon.  The Ramblers were victorious in the only previous meeting, a 1-0 triumph back on September 20, 1998 at Loyola Soccer Park.

Loyola owns a record of 3-6 (.333) against teams which call the state of Pennsylvania home.  Saturday marks only the Ramblers second game in The Keystone State after dropping a 1-0 decision to La Salle on September 6, 1993.

Up Next: Loyola splits time on the road and at home next week, visiting VCU on Thursday, October 13 before returning to Rogers Park on Sunday, October 16 to host Duquesne on Senior and Alumnae Day at Loyola Soccer Park.
