FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 29, 2021) – After just under 65 minutes of game action, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team's matchup with Florida Gulf Coast was canceled due to multiple lightning delays at the FGCU Soccer Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. Since the two teams were not able to complete 70 minutes of play, the game will be officially listed as a no contest.
At the time of the first stoppage, Loyola held a 2-0 lead following second-half goals from juniors
Kyrsten Pellikan and
Megan Nemec. Following a two-hour delay, the two teams attempted to restart, but were quickly pulled back off the field following just under a minute of play due to additional lightning strikes in the area.
Loyola will be back in action on Thursday, September 2 when it hosts Wisconsin in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Loyola Soccer Park.
