Loyola Visits UNI For Midweek Matinee On Wednesday

Ramblers look to continue unbeaten start to 2021 spring season

CHICAGO (March 8, 2021) – Coming off a convincing win last week, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (1-0-1, 1-0-1 MVC) opens a two-game road swing this Wednesday against UNI.  The Ramblers and Panthers are scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa.

Last Time Out: Sophomore Olivia Knab and senior Freya Glen each found the back of the net as Loyola cruised to a 2-0 win over visiting Drake last Friday at the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park, Ill.  Knab opened the scoring just 15 minutes in, scoring directly off a corner kick, before Glen added an insurance tally in the 57th minute.  Junior goalkeeper Maddie Hausmann recorded a pair of saves to help lead the Maroon & Gold to its second consecutive clean sheet.

vs. UNI: UNI enters Wednesday's tilt at 0-1-2 (0-1-1 MVC).  The Panthers are coming off a 1-0 setback on the road at Evansville on Friday.  Fourth-year head coach Bruce Erickson's side was picked to finish fifth in the MVC Preseason Poll following a 2019 season in which it went 5-11-0 (1-6-0 MVC).  Johnnie Hill is the team's top returning point-getter after finishing with two goals and three assists a season ago.  Caitlin Richards has started in all three games in goal for the Panthers and sports an impressive 0.33 goals against average.

Series Stuff: Loyola owns an 8-3-1 lead (.708) advantage in 12 previous meetings with UNI in women's soccer, prevailing in each of the last four matchups.  When the two teams met last season on October 5, 2019, Abby Swanson found the back of the net in the 69th minute to ignite a three-goal barrage by the Maroon & Gold that also included tallies from Megan Nemec and Amanda Cassidy as Loyola picked up a 3-0 win.

Up Next: Loyola remains on the road this weekend when it battles Valparaiso on Saturday, March 13.  Kickoff from Brown Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
