CHICAGO (March 23, 2021) – Currently riding a four-game win streak, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (4-0-1, 4-0-1 MVC) will make its final scheduled road trip of the 2021 spring season on Wednesday when it battles Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. Kickoff from inside Memorial Stadium is slated for 12 p.m. (CT).
Last Time Out: Loyola picked up its fourth win in as many games last Sunday, defeating Illinois State by a final margin of 3-2 at Loyola Soccer Park. Senior
Katharine Stephens scored just 20 seconds in to put the Ramblers on the board, before sophomores
Olivia Knab and
Amanda Cassidy found the back of the net in the middle stages of the first half. Cassidy, who also assisted on Knab's tally, was recognized as the MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
vs. Indiana State: Led by fifth-year head coach Julie Hanley, Indiana State has been one of the surprises in the Missouri Valley Conference this year, opening the year at 3-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Valley play. Slotted at eighth in the MVC Preseason Poll, the Sycamores sit second in the league table, just four points off the pace being set by Loyola. Hanley's team has been idle since March 13, a 2-0 road win over Illinois State. Preseason All-MVC honoree CeCe Wahlberg tallied the game-winning goal in the 79th minute against the Redbirds, her team-best second tally of the year. Maddie Alexander anchors the Sycamore defensive unit in goal. Alexander, who has started in all five games for Indiana State, holds a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.848 save percentage.
Series Stuff: Wednesday's matinee marks the 12th meeting in the all-time series between Loyola and Indiana State in women's soccer. The Ramblers have rattled off three straight wins against the Sycamores, opening up an 8-3-0 lead (.727) across the previous 11 encounters. When the two teams last met back on October 26, 2019 at Loyola Soccer Park,
Abby Swanson's fifth-minute goal was canceled out by a Sidney Ewing equalized in the 24th minute of play.
Aleksa Tataryn responded less than two minutes later, firing home what would prove to the game-winning goal in a 2-1 Rambler victory.
