Ramblers Wrap Up Road Swing On Saturday At Valparaiso

Loyola currently resides atop MVC table

CHICAGO (March 12, 2021) – Coming off a win earlier in the week, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (2-0-1, 2-0-1 MVC) caps off a busy stretch on Saturday when it makes the short trip east to battle Valparaiso in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Brown Field.

Last Time Out: Senior Freya Glen scored for a second consecutive game as Loyola notched a 1-0 victory over UNI last Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa.  Out of London, England, Glen found the back of the net in the 20th minute, giving the Maroon & Gold a lead that they would not relinquish, as play was ultimately halted in the 72nd minute due to numerous lightning delays.

vs. Valparaiso: Unbeaten in four of its first five matches this season, Valparaiso currently sits at 2-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play.  Veteran head coach John Marovich notched his 100th career victory in the team's last outing, a 2-0 blanking of Indiana State this past Tuesday at Brown Field.  Tabbed sixth in the MVC Preseason Poll, Valparaiso has been led in the offensive third by Kelsie James, who has two goals and an assist to her name through five appearances.  Nikki Coryell has played in every minute of every game for Marovich's side, notching three shutouts while posting a sparkling 0.55 goals against average in addition to a 0.857 save percentage.

Series Stuff: Winners of its last three matchups with Valparaiso, Loyola has opened up an 18-9-1 (.661) lead in the all-time series between the two institutions.  Prior to Valparaiso's arrival in the Missouri Valley Conference, the two programs met 10 times as Horizon League rivals.  When Loyola and Valparaiso met last season in Rogers Park, Lindsey Hardiman put Loyola in front 28 minutes in, before Katharine Stephens added an insurance goal with just under four minutes remaining in regulation as the Ramblers cruised to a 2-0 win at Loyola Soccer Park.  Grace Droessler recorded a pair of saves in goal for the Maroon & Gold in the victory.

Up Next: Loyola will be idle for just over a week before it battles Illinois State inside the Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park, Ill. on Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m.
