Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ramblers Slip Past UNI In Weather-Shortened Matchup, 1-0

Glen tallies game’s lone goal 20th minute

WATERLOO, Iowa (March 10, 2021)

In Short…
Senior Freya Glen found the back of the net for the second time in as many games as the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team (2-0-1, 2-0-1 MVC) overcame less than ideal weather conditions to defeat host UNI (0-2-2, 0-2-0 MVC), 1-0, this afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa.  Due to multiple lighting delays and the threat of more severe weather throughout the evening, today's game was called in the 72nd minute of play.

Head Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"Obviously not the way you want a game to end.  We've told the girls since the summer to prepare for anything and control what you can control.  The wind was a major factor during the game and I thought our team handled it very well and capitalized on one of our opportunities.  Now we will concentrate on our recovery for a quick turnaround against a Valparaiso team coming off a big win."

How It Happened
Loyola quickly went on the attack, with sophomore Megan Nemec registering a pair of attempts in the game's early stages.  Glen put Loyola on the board just past the quarter-hour mark, unleashing a long-distance effort that found the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Senior Katharine Stephens nearly doubled the lead for the Maroon & Gold in the 30th minute, seeing her shot cleared off the line by a Panther defender.  Junior Demi Limparis made a bid for her first career goal in the half's closing minute, forcing a stop out of UNI goalkeeper Caitlin Richards that ultimately ensured Loyola's lead would remain at 1-0 heading to halftime.

With conditions beginning to deteriorate, the hosts looked to press forward in search of an equalizer.  Johnnie Hill registered the lone shot of the half for either team in the 53rd minute when she fired well high of goal.

Following the stoppage of play at the 71:36 mark of the second half and four separate lightning delays, the game was called off as Loyola picked up a second consecutive win.

Looking At The Numbers
- Glen's goal in the 20th minute marks both her second goal of the season and second of her collegiate career.
- Stephens and Limparis also registered attempts on target, as Loyola outshot UNI by a final margin of 6-2.
- The weather-shortened second half saw the 2021 debut of sophomore goalkeeper Grace Droessler.  Neither Droessler or junior Maddie Hausmann, who played the opening 45 minutes, were forced into a save.
- The Ramblers have now shutout each of their first three opponents to open the 2021 spring season.
