Ramblers Battle #16 Wisconsin To 1-1 Draw In Double Overtime

Tataryn tallies third goal of the season, Droessler records seven saves

In Short…
Senior Aleksa Tataryn scored her team-high third goal of the season, while freshman goalkeeper Grace Droessler turned in the top performance of her young career as the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team earned a 1-1 double-overtime draw against No. 16 Wisconsin this evening at Loyola Soccer Park.  Tonight's result moves the Ramblers to 1-3-1 on the year, while the Badgers now sit at 3-1-1.

Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"We've played a tough schedule early on and I think we still had some residual effects from the Kansas game.  Today we asked the girls to be their best, be themselves and see what happens.  We definitely still have some things to work on, but it's good to get a result at home and we'll move on towards Missouri on Sunday."

How It Happened
Loyola showed no fear of the nationally-ranked Badgers in the early minutes, with seniors Savanah Cruz and Madison Laudeman each forcing saves out of Wisconsin goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer.  The Ramblers were awarded for their aggressive start in the 22nd minute when Tataryn finished at the far post from 12 yards out to put the Ramblers in front early, 1-0.

Wisconsin wasted no time in looking for an equalizer.  Lauren Rice and Dani Rhodes both saw their efforts turned away by Droessler in the 27th and 29th minutes, respectively.  The Badgers would cash in off a set-piece opportunity just past the half-hour mark.  Following a Loyola foul, Claire Shea served a ball into the box that Cameron Murtha redirected past a diving Droessler at her near post to put the visitors back on level terms at halftime, 1-1.

Droessler continued to stand tall in the second stanza, denying Rhodes and Payton Wesley in the half's middle stages.  Cruz came close off a set-piece in the 84th minute, gaining separation only to head over the crossbar.  Droessler recorded arguably her top save of the night just three minutes later, leaving her feet to tip Rhodes' headed effort over the bar, ensuring overtime.

The evening's two extra sessions featured chances for both teams to find a late winner.  Droessler was up to the task again in the 97th minute as she collected Emma Jaskaniec's shot.  Loyola's best chance fell to the feet of Cruz, who unleashed a screaming shot from 25 yards out in the 104th minute that narrowly evaded Bloomer's far post.  Droessler added a final save with two minutes remaining, securing an impressive result for Loyola.

Looking At The Numbers
- Tonight's draw is Loyola's first result over a Top 25 opponent since a scoreless double-overtime draw with then No. 21 DePaul back on September 17, 2015.
- As noted earlier, Tataryn scored her third goal of the season during the first half, a mark that leads the Rambler roster and matches her total from all of last season.
- Droessler, a native of Blue Mounds, Wis., was fantastic tonight in goal for the Maroon & Gold, racking up seven saves in only the second start of her collegiate career.

Up Next
Loyola will look to build off tonight's showing when it travels to Columbia, Mo. on Sunday to take on Missouri.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Walton Stadium.
