Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DePaul Stymies Loyola, 2-0

Pair of second-half goals the difference in home defeat

In Short…
The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team saw its brief two-game unbeaten run brought to an end this evening, falling to DePaul at Loyola Soccer Park by a count of 2-0.  With the win, the Blue Demons move to 3-4-0 on the year, while the Ramblers drop to 2-4-1.

Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"All credit to DePaul.  They came in with a great gameplan and were super organized in the back, which made things very difficult for us.  They dealt with a lot of services in the air and capitalized on a set piece and on a counterattack, so credit to them."

How It Happened
Chances were at a premium in the game's opening quarter hour, with both teams struggling to settle into a rhythm.  Loyola generated a pair of corner kicks in the 19th minute of play, but was unable to turn either into a scoring opportunity.

Freshman goalkeeper Grace Droessler, fresh off claiming MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, notched a pair of saves in the half's middle stages, turning away Jade Eriksen-Russo and Kristin Boos, respectively.  Sophomore Abby Swanson tallied Loyola's lone attempt on target of the first half in the 41st minute, forcing a comfortable stop out of DePaul goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson, as the two city rivals headed to halftime all square.

Graduate student Simone Wark nearly put the Ramblers in front inside the opening seven minutes of the second stanza, only to be turned away by an onrushing Eriksson from eight yards out.  Senior Ari Banks took a go at goal four minutes later, unleashing a free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box that forced a leaping stop out of the Blue Demon netminder.

Boos broke the stalemate in the 64th minute of play, converting off her own blocked attempt just seconds earlier from 15 yards out to put DePaul on top, 1-0.  Droessler kept the margin at one with an impressive denial of Morgan Turner in the 76th minute, but Turner wouldn't be turned away just three minutes later when she let fly with a blast from 30 yards out that found its way under the bar to double the visitors' lead, 2-0, as DePaul closed out its third win in its last four games.

Looking At The Numbers
- Swanson led Loyola on the night with a team-high three attempts, while Wark tallied a pair of shots.
