CHICAGO (October 24, 2019) – Currently sitting just a win shy of securing its second consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular season title, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team will return home for the final time in 2019 on Saturday evening when it plays host to Indiana State. Prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff, the Ramblers will honor their senior class in a special pregame ceremony.
Last Time Out: Loyola picked up a program-record eighth straight win and seized control of the top spot in the MVC table following a dominant 4-1 win over Illinois State last Sunday in Normal, Ill. Graduate student
Simone Wark found the back of the net twice in the victory en route to sweeping MVC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week accolades. Seniors
Sienna Cruz and
Aleksa Tataryn also found the back of the net for Loyola. Sophomore
Abby Swanson was tabbed The Valley's Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Rambler defensive unit hold a high-powered Redbird attack to just a single goal.
vs. Indiana State: Coming off a 1-0 setback on the road Drake last Sunday, Indiana State arrives in Rogers Park at 3-9-2 on the year. The Sycamores, who own a 1-3-1 mark in league play, sit fifth in a contested bottom half in the Missouri Valley Conference table that sees four teams separated by just two points. After starting MVC play 1-0-1, head coach Julie Hanley's team has struggled of late, dropping each of its last three contests. Celeste Wahlberg spearheads the attack for Indiana State. Wahlberg has a team-high 10 points to her name this season, having found the back of the net four times to go along with two assists. Katie Sidloski and Sidney Ewing each have two goals on the year as well. Hannah Sullivan has played all but 107 minutes in goal this season for Hanley's side, posting a 1.42 goals against average and a 0.771 save percentage.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Indiana State will meet for the 11th time in Saturday evening's home finale in Rogers Park. The Ramblers are 7-3-0 all-time against their Hoosier State counterparts, having won four of the six meetings since moving to The Valley prior to the 2013 season. Loyola cruised to a 4-0 victory when the two teams met last season at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Ind.
Jenna Szczesny found the back of the net twice, while Tataryn and
Madison Laudeman each added single tallies in a convincing road win for the Maroon & Gold.
Up Next: Loyola wraps up the 2019 regular season on the road with a 4 p.m. tilt at Evansville on Thursday, October 31.
