Seniors Jenna Szczesny and Madison Kimball each turned in two-goal showings as the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team cruised to a 4-2 victory over UNI this afternoon in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams.  Today's victory at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo, Iowa sees the Ramblers improve to 4-5-1 (1-0-0 MVC), while the Panthers slide to 4-4-2 (0-1-0 MVC).

"A huge three points on the road at, in my opinion, the toughest place to play in the MVC.  I was very proud of the girls' approach to our first conference game.  We were confident, moved the ball well, and played as a team.  That's a great recipe for success."
 
How It Happened
Loyola struggled to generate quality chances against a well-organized UNI defense in the opening minutes.  Szczesny and freshman Abby Swanson both had their respective attempts easily collected by Jami Reichenberger, the Panther netminder, in the opening quarter hour of play.
 
The Ramblers struck from the penalty spot in the 20th minute when, following a foul inside the 18-yard box by Reichenberger, Szczesny calmly slotted in to put Loyola on the board first, 1-0.  UNI answered back less than 10 minutes later, with Kelsey Yarrow directing a long-distance effort in at the far post to knot the game up at 1-1. 
 
That scoreline would not hold for long as Kimball opened her account for the day in the 32nd minute, rifling her attempt past Reichenberger to edge the Maroon & Gold back on top, 2-1.  The senior sent Loyola racing into halftime when she finished off a cross from Szczesny with only three minutes remaining in the opening frame to up the margin to 3-1.
 
Following a slow start for both teams coming out of the intermission, the duo of Szczesny and junior Aleksa Tataryn linked up to produce Loyola's fourth tally of the afternoon.  Tataryn corralled a bounding ball on the edge of the box before sending a centering pass across the face of goal that was directed home by Szczesny to extend the lead to 4-1.  Brynell Yount would pull one back for the hosts in the 75th minute, trimming the gap to 4-2, but that would be all that the Panthers could muster as Loyola picked up its first regular-season road win over UNI in program history.

Looking At The Numbers
- This afternoon marks the third time this season that the Ramblers have reached the four-goal mark.  The total is also the most given up by a UNI team that entered the afternoon with an impressive 0.78 goals against average on the year.
- Szczesny, who notched the fourth two-goal showing of her collegiate career, paced the Loyola offense on the day with two goals and an assist.  The Hoffman Estates, Ill. native currently leads the Loyola roster in goals (5), assists (4) and overall points (14).
- Kimball's two first-half tallies bring her season total on the year to four, eclipsing her previous career high of three goals that she set as a junior.
- Junior goalkeeper Kate Moran finished the afternoon with five saves en route to picking up her fourth victory of the season.

Loyola wraps up a stretch that will ultimately see it play four of five games away from Rogers Park on Saturday when it visits Terre Haute, Ind. to take on Indiana State.  Kickoff from Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m. (CT).
