CHICAGO (August 22, 2018) – The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team makes its first visit to the state of California since the 2002 season this weekend for a pair of games. Loyola Marymount will provide the opposition on Friday evening at 6 p.m. (CT) ahead of a 12 p.m. (CT) Sunday afternoon tilt with CSU Bakersfield.
Last Time Out: Loyola split a pair of games to open the 2018 this past weekend. Bolstered by a two-goal showing from junior
Sienna Cruz, the Ramblers picked up a 4-2 win over visiting UMass Lowell last Friday at Loyola Soccer Park before dropping a tight 2-1 decision to No. 14/19 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. on Sunday afternoon. Freshman
Bella Lestina netted Loyola's lone goal in the contest against the Fighting Irish.
vs. Loyola Marymount: Loyola Marymount, which was picked fifth in the West Coast Conference's (WCC) Preseason Coaches Poll, opened the 2018 season by traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii for a pair of games as part of the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff. The Lions played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime with Bowling Green last Friday before falling, 3-0, to #11/9 Texas A&M on Sunday to round its stay on the island. Head coach Michelle Myers is back for her seventh season at the helm for Loyola Marymount after leading the Lions to a 9-7-4 record (4-4-1 WCC) in 2017. Myers welcomes back a strong nucleus of returning letterwinners from a year ago, led by Preseason All-WCC honoree Emma Trynauer. Trynauer earned First Team All-WCC accolades in 2017 after starting in 18 of the Lions' 19 games and notching three assists. Charlee Pruitt has started in both of the team's opening two games and boasts a 1.80 goals against average.
vs. CSU Bakersfield: CSU Bakersfield dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime road decision to Eastern Washington last Friday. The Roadrunners' scheduled clash at Gonzaga two days later was canceled due to poor air quality. First-year head coach Sebastian Vecchio's side was pegged seventh in the Western Athletic Conference's (WAC) Preseason Coaches poll after finishing last season at 6-12-1 (1-5-1 WAC). The duo of Kamari Hines (5 goals, 1 assist in 2017) and Aminah Settles will look to provide an offensive punch for the Roadrunners in the offensive third. Jordan Bertram started the team's lone game in goal this season and stopped three shots. Prior to taking on the Ramblers, CSU Bakersfield will visit UC Riverside on Friday evening.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Loyola Marymount will meet for only the second time on Friday evening. The Lions picked up a 3-0 victory over the Ramblers back on Sept. 8, 2002. Sunday's weekend finale will mark the first matchup between Loyola and CSU Bakersfield in women's soccer.
Up Next: Loyola returns to the friendly confines of Loyola Soccer Park next weekend to host Purdue Fort Wayne (Aug. 31) and Oklahoma State (Sept. 2).
