In Short
Keenan Dolezal pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and
Brooke Wilson belted a two-run home run in a decisive three-run fourth inning to lead Loyola University Chicago (12-9) to a 6-2 victory over Lehigh (2-10) this morning at the USF Tournament. The Ramblers have now won five of their last six contests.
How It Happened
Loyola answered a first-inning Lehigh run with a pair of its own in its first turn at bat to seize a 2-1 lead.
Shannon McGee got the offense cooking with a lead-off triple to right, but later was retired on a fielder's choice. The Ramblers got the rest of the rally moving with two outs, and scored their runs on a Hawks error and
Peyton DeChant's bases-loaded walk.
Lehigh made it a brand-new ballgame with a run in the third on Mary-Hannah Smith's RBI single, but the Ramblers would counter with a three-run fourth inning to reclaim and lead and take control of the contest.
Once again, McGee was the table setter, coaxing a lead-off walk and later coming around to score the go-ahead run on
Katie Kasubke's double to center. One out later, Wilson smashed her first roundtripper of the season, clubbing a 2-1 pitch over the right field fence, for a two-run blast that pushed the Ramblers' lead to 5-2.
The Ramblers added an insurance run in the fifth on McGee's two-out, run-scoring single, her third hit of the day, and Dolezal was sensational in relief, allowing only two hits in 3.1 innings of work, striking out one.
A Look At The Numbers
- McGee notched her second three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI.
- Kasubke doubled and scored a pair of runs, while Wilson knocked in two and hit her first home run since April 22, 2017.
