BEAUMONT, Texas (February 22, 2018) –
In Short
Shelby Henderson's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth propelled Lamar (5-6) to a come-from-behind, 5-4 victory over Loyola University Chicago (3-4) this afternoon at the Cardinal Classic. The loss snaps the Ramblers' three-game winning streak.
How It Happened
Loyola got on the board first, scoring a first-inning run on
Allyson Ivey's two-out RBI single that plated
Shannon McGee, who had led off the game with a base hit. That lead was short-lived however, as Lamar countered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at 1.
The Ramblers seized the lead right back in their half of the second when
Ashley Parenti scored on a Cardinal error and
Jamie O'Brien scooted home on a wild pitch to give Loyola starter
Keenan Dolezal a 3-1 cushion.
Lamar sliced the Loyola advantage in half in the bottom half of that inning and tied the game in the fourth on Henderson's RBI single.
Loyola reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning when
Katie Kasubke laced a double to left to spark a two-out rally. Ivey followed with a base hit and
Brooke Wilson's go-ahead RBI single brought in Kasubke for a 4-3 Rambler lead.
Lamar staged some late-game heroics however and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Paige Holmes' run-scoring single tied the game and two batters later, Henderson delivered the game-winning hit.
A Look At The Numbers
- Ivey had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-3 for her first career three-hit performance, while McGee continued to shine, finishing with a pair of hits.
- Loyola pounded out 11 hits off two Cardinal pitchers, with eight players tallying at least one hit.
- Henderson and Savana Guidry tallied three hits apiece to lead Lamar.
