CHICAGO (September 7, 2017) – The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team will begin its seven-game Missouri Valley Conference slate on Friday evening as it hosts Indiana State in the league opener for both teams in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Loyola Soccer Park. Following their meeting with the Sycamores, a 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon tilt at Iowa awaits the Ramblers.
Last Time Out: Loyola split a pair of contests as part of the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. last weekend. The Ramblers raced past Mercer, 5-2, in the event's opening game behind goals from
Katie Grall,
Madison Kimball,
Emily Lange,
Avalon Senn-Raemont and
Kat Stephens.
Jenna Ross dished out three assists in the victory. Central Michigan dealt the Maroon & Gold a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime defeat to close out the weekend.
Taylor Lambouris scored in the dying stages of the first half to level the game before Madison Costner netted the winner for the Chippewas.
vs. Indiana State: Indiana State enters Friday's conference opener at 3-2-1 on the year following a 1-1 road trip through the state of Wisconsin last week. The Sycamores, who were picked eighth in the MVC Preseason Poll, downed Green Bay by a final count of 2-0 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Milwaukee. Reilly Teal has found the back of the net twice this season, a mark which leads the Indiana State Roster, while Caitlyn Eddy has a team-high four assists to her name. Hannah Sullivan has played every minute of every game in goal this season for second-year head coach Julie Hanley's side and sports a 1.77 goals against average.
vs. Iowa: Iowa, fresh off a 2-0 victory over UC Santa Barbara over the weekend in Minneapolis, Minn., sits at 4-1-0 on the year. The Hawkeyes lone defeat came at the hands of a nationally ranked Notre Dame team, 2-0. Head coach Dave Diiani's team boasts a potent offensive attack that averages just over three goals per game. Leading the way is the trio of Devin Burns, Olivia Fiegel and Kaleigh Haus. Burns, the reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and Fiegel each have five goals to their name this season, while Haus is close behind with four tallies. Goalkeeper Claire Graves, who owns a 0.90 goals against average, has started in all five games for the Hawkeyes.
After This: Loyola will host a pair of city rivals next weekend at Loyola Soccer Park when it entertains Chicago State (Sept. 15) and DePaul (Sept. 17).
