In Short…

The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team jumped out to an early two-goal lead en route to defeating Akron, 4-1, in the final game of the Loyola Invitational this afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park.  With the win, the Ramblers climb back to the .500 mark at 2-2-0, while the Zips fall to 1-2-1.

How It Happened
Loyola jumped on top just over six minutes into the first half.  Following a deflection by Akron goalkeeper Amani Jiu off of sophomore Alexa Tataryn's try, freshman Kat Stephens finished an uncontested look from inside the six-yard box to make it 1-0.  Sophomore Sienna Cruz would up the lead for the Maroon & Gold to 2-0 in the 27th minute as she headed a delivery off of a corner kick by junior Taylor Lambouris past a leaping Jiu.

Senior goalkeeper Maddie Ford registered her lone stop of the first 45 minutes in the 33rd minute, collecting Kiana Zuk's shot to protect Loyola's 2-0 edge.  Junior Jenna Szczesny came close to making it 3-0 six minutes before halftime as she broke free before putting her attempt inches wide of the far post.

The Ramblers were presented with a golden opportunity to add a third tally in the 50th minute following an Akron foul inside the 18-yard box.  Jiu was up to the task in goal though as she dove to deny Tataryn's penalty kick.  Akron got on the board four minutes later when Eliese Lacourt directed Ally Brown's pass into the back of the net to trim the Loyola lead to 2-1.

Tataryn and Szczesny put to rest any hopes for an Akron comeback in the middle stages of the second half.  Tataryn tallied her first career goal and reestablished a two-goal lead, 3-1, in the 68th minute as she managed to get her attempt off of a corner kick by senior Emily Lange just over the line.  Szczesny added another insurance goal in the following minute when she settled a long pass from Lambouris and slotted home at the near post to seal a 4-1 win.

Looking At The Numbers
- Szczesny notched her team-best third goal of the season in the second half, while Stephens' opening goal was the second tally of her young career.
- Lambouris recorded her third assist of the season on Szczesny's goal.  The Farmington Hills, Mich. product currently sits just one assist shy of tying her current single-season high of four that was set during her freshman campaign.
- Loyola turned in a dominant performance for large stretches of play as it outshot the Zips by a final margin of 21-8.
- Ford notched a pair of saves before giving way to freshman Radhika Patel for the final 15 minutes of regulation.
- For their efforts on the weekend, Cruz, Lambouris and Szczesny were all named to the event's All-Tournament Team.
