CHICAGO (October 5, 2017) – The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team will go in search of an eighth straight win on Saturday evening when it hosts Missouri Valley Conference newcomer Valparaiso in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Loyola Soccer Park.
Last Time Out: The Ramblers erupted for four second-half goals as they won a program-record seventh-straight game, downing visiting Missouri State by a final count of 5-0 this past Sunday in Rogers Park. Junior
Jenna Szczesny netted a pair of goals to bring her team and MVC-best total in the category to 10, while freshman
Radhika Patel notched two saves in goal after being forced into action following an early injury to senior
Maddie Ford. Loyola's five-goal outburst in the win brought its season goal total to 47, breaking the program's previous single-season record of 45 that was set during the 2008 campaign.
vs. Valparaiso: Valparaiso brings a record of 7-6-0 into Saturday's tilt. The Crusaders have split their first two MVC contests, defeating Missouri State, 1-0, before dropping a 4-2 decision at Drake. The dynamic duo of Sydney Griffin and Cory Griffith paces the attack for head coach John Marovich's side. Griffin has scored a team-high six goals, with Griffith hot on her heels with five tallies. Drew Moulton has started both of the team's league games in goal and holds a 2.00 goals against average in MVC action.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Valparaiso are no strangers to each other, having spent six seasons together as members of the Horizon League. The Ramblers own a 15-8-1 edge in 24 all-time meetings between the two institutions but the Crusaders have had the upper hand of late, prevailing in three straight matchups. The most recent of those three victories came in last season's meeting at Loyola Soccer Park as April Cronin recorded a hat trick to lead the Crusaders to a 3-2 double-overtime victory.
After This: Loyola heads back out on the road for a midweek clash against Illinois State, the preseason league favorite, on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. in Normal, Ill.
