In Short…
Goals in the first half from sophomores Madison Kimball and Jenna Szczesny helped see the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team past Missouri State, 2-0, this afternoon at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Mo. With the win, the Ramblers move to 1-0-0 in MVC play (3-7-2 overall), while the Bears see their conference record slip to 0-2-0 (3-7-2 overall).

Coach Bimbi's Thoughts…
"We had a good game plan in place heading into the game and the girls executed it perfectly in the first half. In the second half, they were pressing and had us on our heels a bit, but our team stood strong and preserved the three points on the road."

How It Happened
Both teams were presented with opportunities inside the opening five minutes as Mary Disidore misfired before freshman Sienna Cruz pushed her headed attempt wide at the other end of the field. Just under two minutes after Cruz's try, the Bears' Sidni Trotter was shown a yellow card for a reckless challenge just outside her team's 18-yard box. Kimball stepped up for the resulting free kick and rifled her attempt in at the near post to give Loyola a 1-0 lead with under eight minutes gone.

Brooke Prondzinski came close to pulling the hosts level in the 19th minute when she hit the crossbar from 15 yards out. Szczesny doubled the Rambler lead only 10 minutes later. Junior Katie Grall headed on a kick from junior goalkeeper Maddie Ford that the Hoffman Estates, Ill. product chased down and slotted home at the far post to make it 2-0 to Loyola with just over half an hour gone. Ford added her first save of the day in the 40th minute to ensure that the Ramblers would take a two-goal edge into halftime.

Missouri State immediately looked to amp up its pressure following the intermission. Rachel Catrell and Ashley Tallerine each saw their respective attempts go off target in the early stages of the second stanza. Disidore had her shot off of a Prondzinski corner trickle wide of the far post just before the hour mark.

The freshman duo of Aleksa Tataryn and Ari Banks nearly had the Ramblers up three in the 72nd minute. Tataryn worked her way along the end line on the right side and sent a low ball into the box that Banks ripped at goal, only for Stamp to make the save. The extra insurance wouldn't be needed on the day though as Loyola limited the Bears to only one shot for the final 27 minutes of regulation en route to picking up a 2-0 victory.

Looking At The Numbers
- Loyola, which picked up its first win in Springfield in two tries this afternoon, is now 3-0-1 in its conference openers since joining the Valley prior to the start of the 2013 season.
- Despite being outshot by a count of 13-6, the Ramblers held the Bears to only one shot on target.
- Kimball's game-winning tally in the eighth minute marked the first goal of her collegiate career.
- Grall picked up her team-high fourth assist of the season on Szczesny's goal.
