CHICAGO - Goals in rapid succession from Jennifer Saviski and Olivia Everin sent UIC past the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team this evening by a final count of 3-2 at Loyola Soccer Park. The victory sees the Flames improve their record to 3-9-1 overall (0-3-0 Horizon League), while the Ramblers slip to 6-5-3 (1-1-1 MVC) on the year.

"We came out a little flat tonight but I think a lot of credit goes to UIC," Loyola head women's soccer coach Barry Bimbi said. "They had a good game plan coming in and they were sharp early. I thought that we were much better in the second half. We played well and created a lot of chances to go back up, 2-1. For us, we have to use this all as a learning tool because we took our foot of the gas after going up and they took the lead back. Hopefully it's a lesson learned out of conference and will make us better down the road."

UIC, making its first visit to Rogers Park in program history, jumped out to an early lead from the penalty spot inside five minutes. Following a handball in the box, Jasmin Carrera tucked her shot inside the lower right corner of goal to put the Flames on top, 1-0. Freshman Taylor Lambouris and senior Jessica Bean both looked to draw the Ramblers level shortly after, firing high and wide of goal, respectively.

Freshman Jenna Szczesny nearly scored a highlight-reel goal from distance in the 12th minute, chipping an attempt from 30 yards out that rung off the crossbar before caroming out of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Ford came up big at the other end of the field for the Maroon & Gold less than five minutes later, stoning a blast from Emily Wauer to keep Loyola within one. Szczesny and sophomore Carolina Dunbar each forced saves out of Kelly Fritz, the Flames netminder, before the half was over but the Ramblers were unable to find the back of the net and found themselves in a 1-0 hole heading into the intermission.

Loyola looked to take control of the game as the second half began, quickly pinning UIC back into its own third. A misplay from Fritz on a service into the box saw the Flames goalkeeper whistled for a foul, giving the Ramblers a chance of their own from the spot. Sophomore Avalon Senn-Raemont, who came off the bench as a substitute in the first half, calmly converted on the penalty kick to draw Loyola level, 1-1, in the 54th minute. The home side would have to wait just over 20 minutes to grab their first lead of the night when Szczesny sent a low ball across the face of goal that connected with Bean, who directed her attempt into the back of the net to make it 2-1 to Loyola with 15 minutes to play.

Ford stepped up in the 78th minute to keep the Ramblers on top, parrying away a blast from Paige Proctor off of a free kick. It proved only to be a matter of time for the visitors as Saviski made it 2-2 in the 82nd minute when her long, bending shot from 30 yards out found its way inside the far post. Just 33 seconds later, Wauer connected with Everin who dribbled around Ford for an uncontested finish to help UIC regain its lead, 3-2. The Ramblers had a pair of chances in the 84th minute to force overtime, with the best of the two coming when Bean unleashed a rocket that nearly found its way by new UIC goalkeeper Ana Hernandez. That would prove to be the final shot of the night for either side as UIC escaped with a 3-2 win.

Loyola wraps up non-conference play on Sunday afternoon when it makes the short trip to Valparaiso, Ind. to take on Valparaiso. Kickoff against the Crusaders from Brown Field is set for 1 p.m.
