DEKALB Ill. - The Ramblers ended their five-game road swing in DeKalb, Ill., falling to Northern Illinois 3-0. The Huskies outshot the Ramblers 13-8 with both teams notching three corner kicks.

The first half started slow for the Ramblers as Northern Illinois immediately took control of the game. Only three minutes in, the Huskies earned a corner kick with Lauren Noonan receiving the ball, heading it to Corinne Frankenberg who tapped it in, putting Loyola behind 1-0.

Loyola saw a chance to come back in the 23rd minute, earning a free kick off a handball by the Huskies. Junior Tricia Stonebraker took the kick, but the ball was deflected by Northern Illinois, passing just high of the crossbar.

Five minutes later, the Ramblers found themselves at the other end of the field, defending against a run by Frankenberg. A cross by Frankenberg just in front of the goal left Monica Gonyo stretching to swat away the ball, setting Shelbi Johnson to follow-up and extend the Huskies' lead 2-0.

With only five minutes left until the break, Loyola looked to awaken on offense, as senior Kristin Papierski fired a shot, but goalkeeper Amy Carr made the save. Sophomore Allison Rydberg was up next, dribbling down the left side and ripping a shot wide from just outside the 18, ending the half with the Ramblers down 2-0.

The second half looked much the same as the first as Northern Illinois controlled the game, finding scoring opportunities up top. Frankenberg had a breakaway five minutes in, dribbling the ball up the field only to have Monica Gonyo make a great save. The offensive pressure never let up and in the 64th minute Sara Spaulding brought Gonyo out of goal, launching the ball in the net for a 3-0 score.

Sammy Gage made a last attempt to put Loyola on the board with only ten seconds left, receiving a free kick, but Carr made the save, sealing the 3-0 victory for the Huskies.

The Ramblers return to Loyola Soccer Park for their home opener against Yale on Friday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
