VALPARAISO, Ind. - Monica Gonyo earned her seventh shutout of the season as Loyola University Chicago women's soccer played Valparaiso to a scoreless draw in a double-overtime game on Monday.

"I'm very proud of our girls and the effort they put forth in our 13th road game of the year," said head coach Barry Bimbi. "We did enough good things during the game to get the three points, but at the end of the day a draw was a fair result. Now all of our efforts will be focused on Green Bay on Wednesday night."

Loyola pressured the Crusaders early, generating several offensive opportunities in the first half. Senior Ana Claudia Michelini opened the match, finishing a great sequence by the Ramblers with a low shot to Valparaiso goalkeeper Kristen Manski in the 12th minute. Two back-to-back corner kicks for Loyola followed in the 18th minute as senior Jessie Hubly delivered the first kick to senior Chelsie Stokes who sent a shot wide of the left post.

Valparaiso looked to challenge Loyola late in the half as Catherine Terrell notched the Crusaders only shot on goal before the break, powering a ball directly into the hands of sophomore goalkeeper Monica Gonyo. The save held the match scoreless heading into the intermission.

At the return of play, the Ramblers' backline was hard at work defending its side of the pitch. Valparaiso challenged Loyola in the 55th minute, taking three consecutive shots. Gonyo made a great save, diving across goal to tip a high volley over the crossbar in the 56th minute.

With three minutes left in regulation, junior Alex Brown led an offensive charge for Loyola, chipping a shot over the goal. Sophomore Moriah Schwarz followed with another shot in the 88th minute, lofting a ball from 20 yards out as Manski made the save.

Regulation ended with the match scoreless, signaling the start of the sixth overtime game Loyola has played this season. The teams split control in the first overtime as Loyola threatened several times on the counter-attack. Hubly jump-started a sequence in the 99th minute, dribbling up the field into Crusader territory. A quick pass to junior Tricia Stonebraker continued the play with Schwarz receiving the ball in the box and sending a shot high of the crossbar.

Stonebraker had the final chance for Loyola, directing a shot high of the net in the 103rd minute. The shot would close the game for the Ramblers as Gonyo notched her seventh shutout.

Loyola ends the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Loyola Soccer Park where the Ramblers take on Green Bay at 5 p.m.
