CHICAGO- The Iowa Hawkeyes found the scoreboard twice in the first-half, and once more in the second frame to defeat the Loyola Ramblers 3-0 on Friday evening at the Loyola Soccer Park in Chicago, Illinois.
The loss moves Loyola to 0-5-0 on the season. Iowa improves to 3-1-0.
The contest began with the Ramblers taking control of the game's tempo, as the home moved the ball with little restraint down towards the Hawkeye goal. Loyola fired three straight shots, but each attempt missed wide of the net.
In the 18th minute, Iowa got on the board, thanks to a successful header from Alex Melin after receiving a cross-field pass from Gabby Ainsworth.
Four minutes later, the Hawkeyes struck again, when Jade Grimm received a pass from Dana Dalrymple in the Rambler box and fired a seven-yard strike past Loyola goalkeeper Katie Groesch.
The two teams went into halftime with Iowa holding a 2-0 lead.
In the second-half, Loyola once again came out firing in early, as Allie Roufus nearly found the back of the net, but the attempt missed high of the goal.
At the 72nd mark, Iowa scored the game's third and final goal, when Morgan Showalter drove from midfield and fired a shot to the far post past Groesch.
Loyola made final attempts to get back into the ballgame, taking eight shots in the final frame. However, the Hawkeye defense held its ground, holding the Ramblers scoreless.
The final horn sounded with Iowa earning the win, 3-0.
Loyola fired a game-high 17 shots on the evening. Iowa made eight attempts.
Jessie Hubly led the Ramblers with five shots, two on goal. Groesch made three saves in the contest.
The Loyola women's soccer team will return to action this Sunday, when they welcome the Northern Illinois Huskies to the Loyola Soccer Park. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. CST.
