Tough Dayton Offense Blanks Loyola, 4-0

Sept. 17, 2010

Box Score

DAYTON- The Dayton offense was too much for Loyola University Chicago on Friday evening, scoring two goals in each half, as the Flyers blank the Ramblers, 4-0 on in Dayton, Ohio.

Loyola moves to 2-7 on the 2010 season. Dayton improves to 7-2 with the home win.

The home team came out and pushed the ball early into Rambler territory in the game's opening minute, making their presence known with two quick shots.

On the second shot, Dayton found the scoreboard. Jerica DeWolfe made the score 1-0 after netting an unassisted goal from the top of the box into the back of the Rambler net.

The teams traded seven shots the remainder of the half, and with only one second left until the break, Dayton increased its lead to 2-0, thanks to a miraculous 45-yard shot from Colleen Williams from the far left side of the field.

With the stunning goal, the Flyers strolled into halftime with the momentum and a 2-0 advantage.

The second half featured the same story for the Ramblers, as Dayton continued to find shot opportunities around the Loyola goal.

In the 51st minute, the Flyers found its third goal of the match, when Kelly Blumenschien scored from the right side of the Loyola box.

Unfortunately for the Ramblers, Dayton wasn't finished, as seen a minute later, when Colleen Williams made a cross pass to Kelsey Owen deep inside Loyola territory. Owen turned and fired a laser past Rambler goalkeeper Katie Groesch, making the score, 4-0.

Jessie Hubly and Alex Brown made shot attempts for the Ramblers late in the second half, but the damage had been done.

As the second ticked away, Dayton walked off the field from Friday's game on top of the scoreboard, winning the match, 4-0.

Hubly led the Rambler offense with two shots and a shot on goal. As a team, Loyola made seven total shot attempts, five coming in the first half alone. Greosch added five saves to her 2010 total, while Colleen Dougherty came into the game and blocked four shots.

The Ramblers will travel back to Chicago to face the DePaul Blue Demons on the road at Wish Field on September 19. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. CST.
