Final Stats

CHICAGO- In the final regular season Horizon League game of the 2010 season, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team fell victim to a feisty Green Bay squad on Tuesday evening, as the Phoenix found a goal in each half to down the Ramblers, 2-1 at Loyola Soccer Park.

Loyola falls for the second straight game, moving to 6-11-1 (4-3-1) this fall. Green Bay earns its first conference, improving to 3-8-3 (1-4-1).

After the teams traded early possessions, Green Bay found the scoreboard in the 6th minute, when Chanel Aries scored off a rebound shot inside the Loyola box, beating Rambler goalkeeper Katie Groesch to the far post.

Down 1-0, Loyola fought back, and tied the game, thanks to a pass from Ashley Funk that found a wide open Kristin Papierski, who fired a floater over the hands of Phoenix goalkeeper Maddie Drusch.

With the game knotted at 1-1, and with ten minutes left in regulation, Green Bay regained the lead, when Laura Somers scored from inside the Loyola box after receiving a corner kick pass from Helka Palmadottir.

Scrambling for a game-tying goal, Maggie Doe made one last effort with under two minutes to force overtime, but her shot was blocked by the Green Bay defense.

Despite outshooting the Phoenix 19-7, the Ramblers missed numerous opportunities to even up the score late in the contest. The home team mustered ten shots in the second half alone. Green Bay attempted four shots in the final period.

With one game left until the Horizon League tournament, the Ramblers will wrap up the regular season in Evansville, Indiana, where they will square-off against the Purple Aces on October 22 at 5:00 p.m. CST.
